Black Hat USA 2023 - Recap Day 1
For most people, Las Vegas holds an allure synonymous with vibrant nightlife and extravagant buffets, but for the month of August it’s all about the infosec crowd from around the world attending prominent Information Security Events from Black Hat USA to the iconic hacking conference, DEFCON. In this blogpost, we share some insights of the day along with our remote consultant having the chance to meet prospects, partners and highlight the experience.
The Business Hall
On the first day of Black Hat, entering the Business Hall was information overload under one roof. Slick trade show lights and displays, contests with prizes to match and not to mention the buzzing attendees swiping ‘swag’. Along with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee at every booth, one of the highlights and great things about Black Hat USA was putting a name to at least some sort of human face to vendors that we have either worked with in the past, working with, or have trialled out.
Guess which one I answered… 😏
For example, Snyk was one such vendor. Subsequently, there were also some vendors there that I have approached to discuss why I was no longer doing business with them and provide them with some feedback.
One of the great moments was idea exchanges with various vendors - not necessarily there to push a product, but to discuss about the great trends in Information Security such as AI, LLMs and also business and new service ideas (is SOCaaS).
One of the spaces that we appreciated the most were the Community Lounge areas which hosted some professional development talks.
The SentinelOne marketing was all over Vegas, starting with ads at the airport and even at the hotel outside. We loved this motif completely because it has summed up Black Hat on the first day for us. The wires were like knowledge, inspiration and ideas from the presentations today and the talks with the many different vendors on how we can further improve and expand our service offerings to our new and existing customers.
As we encapsulate our first time attending Black Hat, it has no doubt been interesting so far and well worth the trip. With day two approaching - comment below on your thoughts of the event so far.
