And that’s a wrap! As we continued on the final day of the Black Hat USA 2023 Conference in Las Vegas (and the end of an exhausting trip) we discovered some more tool unveilings, service introductions and platform launches including some fast-growing domains. With hundreds of top cybersecurity and emerging start up vendors and organisations showcasing across the floor, we were set for yet another day to declutter through an array of exhibitors.
For a closer look at what sparked our interest the most, also connecting with more of you over the course of two days, keep reading for our highlights that were unveiled.
Cyber Security Trends 2023
Whether it’s new security findings or gaining forefront advancements, Black Hat was ‘the event’ to be to not only scope out Cyber Security Trends and intriguing applications but what cutting-edge practices our peers and competitors have been brewing up.
Including in that is the fast-growing category of Cloud Security. While not a new trend, it has garnered notoriety. The evolution to drive this adoption to many enterprises has rapidly adapted and in this digital age we live in now, the ‘work from anywhere’ and the embracement of ‘outsourcing’ remotely has certainly introduced many other unique challenges. With the rise of technology, access to data has been more convenient than before but furthermore, it’s ushering increase of sophisticated attacks.

One of the vendors that differentiates in this environment is leading company Lacework, where we happened to stop by their booth. Welcomed with a “selfieccino” bar, we took the line and made our headshots with the barista where our faces were then scanned and reproduced on froth with flavourless food colouring.
While sipping and being quite impressed by my new frothy selfie, it really made me think of their approach and methology towards harnessing machine learning or the capabilities of embracing digital technology. For their underlining message, Lacework’s ‘secure from core to cloud’ incorporates their platform with a patented form of machine using Generative AI in Cloud Security into work flow to understand threat detection even faster. Nonetheless, this topic will definitely be something to watch.

Tik Tok Security
As we spent a few hours on our feet already, we took a turn into the Networking Lounge and found ourselves head-to-head with a Tik Tok Global Security Campaign from it’s organisation. Like many social media platforms out there, sensitive issues have been a major subject when it comes to data and privacy concerns, and with Tik Tok being a major player in the field compassing more than a billion users worldwide - this much loved short video sharing app is not without it’s Cyber Security controversy.
During a conversation with a fellow attendee, it was interesting to learn that the company will be seeking to add to their cyber security team across a range of practices like Risk Management, incident response and more to sustain New Generation Security and privacy controls. With a love/hate relationship with this app, we certainly hope that this response to online safety will improve in the near future with their expansion plans! And for that we took our merch and went about the rest of our day.
